Trying out the most random little experiments at home is basically a full-time hobby for most pet parents. It’s one of those things that makes having a dog so entertaining. Anita over at @anita.werkman shares glimpses of this in her digital diary from Thailand.
Her Golden Retriever, Millie, is usually up for whatever. But recently, the family decided to test a very specific theory. They wanted to see if a yawn is actually as contagious as everyone says it is. It started out as a simple test, and it ended with everyone watching losing it.
Golden Retriever copies owner’s yawn and it’s just too cute
The clip starts with the pet mom lying on the bed with Millie sprawled right on top of her. Her dad is behind the camera, filming the whole thing. Her mom then lets out a massive yawn in the video to see if the Golden Retriever reacts. Millie just hangs out there for a second and then stretches out to boop her mom’s hand with her nose.
Next, her dad decides to join in off-camera. He lets out a really loud, dramatic yawn. And that is exactly when things get interesting. Almost as soon as her dad finishes, Millie opens her mouth wide for a big squeaky yawn of her own. It is a perfect copy.
Both parents immediately burst out laughing because their theory was totally right. They are equal parts surprised and ecstatic. Millie just looks at them with this confused expression and a sweet smile.
She clearly has no idea why everyone is making so much noise suddenly. This breed is famously observant and bonded to their people. So it makes sense she’d pick up on their cues.
The clip has racked up over 5K likes because the timing is just so perfect. People are flooding the comments with heart emojis. One viewer said they started squeaking at the screen because it was too impactful.
Another fan couldn’t get over the tiny smile Millie has at the very end. “We heard yawning is contagious,” Anita shared in the caption. Well, it really is a hundred percent true, at least in this house.
