Put a Golden Retriever and a cat together, and there will never not be hilarious energy in the room — at least that is what this Instagram video from @kaikothegolden_kehlani proves. In the clip, a Golden Retriever named Kaiko and a rescue cat named Kehlani have turned bedtime into a nightly showdown. Naturally, the internet cannot stop watching.
Golden Retriever and cat’s nightly routine is pure chaos
The onscreen text on the video reads, “Nightly routine,” which honestly feels like a sitcom scene featuring Kaiko and Kehlani. Both rescue pets are deep in what looks like a silent, playful fight that they execute entirely with eye contact and fake-outs, except when the cat smacks the dog out of the blue.
The Golden Retriever puppy starts on the bed with a lot of energy, bouncing around in place and creeping toward the edge with her focus on the cat. Meanwhile, Kehlani, who is sitting on the carpet below, is trying very hard not to get involved.
Kehlani holds steady and watches Kaiko without giving her the reaction she wants. But Kaiko keeps testing her luck, dropping her head low as if to say, “Come on, play with me.” And that head down seems to flip a switch in Kehlani, who suddenly launches at the dog.
In a blink, the cat springs up and swats the Golden Retriever, and then immediately steps away as if she has rested her case. Kaiko, of course, does not accept the decision. She circles to the other side of the bed and starts the whole chaos again, teasing from a new angle, like she is trying to restart the game and is certain she will win this time.
Viewers loved the chaotic energy in the video. In the comments, one person wrote, “So adorable.” While others called the back-and-forth between the cat and the dog “cute” and admitted they watched it more than once.
By the end, nobody truly wins — but still, Kaiko gets her drama, and Kehlani gets her last word.
