Exploring a park off-leash is great and all, until you realize you can’t see your mom anywhere. Maui, a sweet Golden Retriever, recently experienced this heart-stopping moment during a regular outing.
According to the caption on this video from @maui_thegoldenpup, his face instantly changes from a frown to a grin the second he spots his human. Watching him stand perfectly still while scanning the horizon for a familiar face is both adorable and slightly stressful. He really puts on a dramatic performance.
Golden Retriever runs across the park to mom after thinking he’d lost her
The video opens with Maui standing perfectly still in the middle of a big park. His tail is tucked low while he nervously scans the area for his human. He turns his head one way and then immediately looks the opposite direction. Then this Golden performs a slow 180-degree scan of everything in front of him.
He eventually moves his entire body around to check the other side of the park. It is a very thorough search for someone who was just down the hill. The Golden Retriever takes a few hesitant steps forward as he tries to find his mom. He then turns his head again and completes a full circle to make sure he is not missing anything.
Finally, he locks eyes with his mom, standing just a little further down the mound. His entire body language shifts the second he recognizes her. “Happy face when he saw you,” someone wrote in the comments, and that’s exactly it. A big grin spreads across his face as he prepares to run. The clip already has over 56,000 likes in just eight hours.
Maui breaks into a joyous, bouncy run straight toward her while he speeds up across the grass. One comment summed it up best: “Ma don’t you dare do that again.” Another fan mentioned that his face is glowing with relief. He treats this reunion like his biggest win for the day and looks just so happy to finally be back with his favorite person.
