A video shared by @brisavespaws shows the heartbreaking condition of Kilo, a six-year-old German Shepherd mix who was found curled up in the back corner of his kennel. The clip begins with a message about how volunteering sometimes means “witnessing the aftermath” of what a dog may have endured.
The camera then reveals Kilo, whose skin is visibly red and badly affected. His appearance suggests that he has been through a great deal, but the volunteer soon discovers that there is still plenty of sweetness beneath his difficult circumstances.
The accompanying caption explains that Kilo is older, heartworm positive, and in “rough shape.” While walking through the kennels, the volunteer noticed him sitting in the corner, squinting up at her with “goopy eyes” and wagging his tail. That small gesture was enough to make her stop.
