Opal May, a rescue pup at Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington, was picked by Julie Saraceno for a day out. The video shows the scared dog leaving her kennel in an Adopt Me vest, but the car proved to be too much. Saraceno wrote that she felt she let her down. Still, she listened when Opal May showed panic and changed the outing into a calmer visit there instead.

‘Scared’ shelter dog eager to leave her kennel panics in the car for a heartbreaking reason

The reel introduces Opal May behind bars, where the text says she was surrendered on August 19. Her listed reason was “escape oriented.” Another caption says she lacks indoor experience. Saraceno guesses that means Opal May was an outside dog.

That detail explains what happens next. When Saraceno tries to take the shelter dog out, Opal May enters the back seat but cannot settle. She climbs around, leans toward the front, and looks unsure of the space.

Saraceno asks, “Girl, what are you doing?” Based on her reaction, Saraceno says she does not think the pup has car experience either. Instead of forcing the trip, she decides not to push her. She chooses the yard and kennel instead.

Outside, Opal May looks softer. She sniffs the grass, accepts affection, and stays close to Saraceno. One caption says she is a good girl, but she may not yet know what a real family feels like. The video asks for a second chance. The reel ends inside. The text says she is adoptable at the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington.

Viewers praised Saraceno for listening. One wrote, “Girl, every bit of exposure is helpful, as long as it wasn’t traumatic. You’re such a gift!” Others commented, “Opal May is so sweet. She just needs a loving home to decompress.

“She’s so beautiful, I hope she finds her furever home soon,” followed by heart emojis and “You didn’t let her down!! You listened to her fear and gave her something she enjoyed instead.”
