Bruce may be halfway into a nap, but evidently compliments still get his attention. The 10-year-old Golden Retriever is stretched out on the couch beside his toys when mom starts listing all the things she loves about him, and his sleepy face slowly starts giving her answers. In the video shared by @seniorboybruce, Bruce barely lifts his head at first, responding with tiny eyebrow movements and slow blinks. But keep the compliments coming, and he gets more involved, even sitting up for the important parts.
Senior dog subtly reacts to praise while trying to nap
When the video begins, Bruce is lying comfortably on the couch, next to his toys. And that’s mom leans over and starts talking to him. “I think you’re really smart,” she says. Bruce gives the smallest eyebrow movement. Mom keeps going. She tells him he has a good personality and is really silly. When she calls him funny, Bruce blinks. Another blink comes after she says he is gentle and has a big heart.
By this point, his breathing is getting louder, and the little reactions keep coming as mom talks about how deeply he loves people, how forgiving he is, and how patient he can be. Then Bruce smacks his lips and lifts his head, looking a little more awake. He now seems to be listening intently to every word that his parent says.
Mom scratches his neck and tells him, “I love you so much, Brucie.” That gets the biggest reaction yet. The Golden Retriever breaks into a wide smile, and Mom smiles, too, before giving him a kiss on top of his head. “I love you,” she tells him again. Bruce turns toward her and plants a gentle kiss right on her chin. “Thanks, buddy,” Mom says.
The video has received more than 15,000 likes, and viewers are emotional about how this senior dog reacts to praise. One person joked that Mom forgot to call him “handsome,” while others said his smile and final kiss were enough to make them cry.
