Sharing belongings rarely comes naturally to older siblings, and this is especially true when a brand-new baby arrives to steal the spotlight. An older Samoyed named Makai illustrated this exact household struggle in a throwback video. The hilarious interaction is gaining fresh popularity over on the Instagram page @makai_the_samoyed. In the clip, the stubborn dog tries to keep a plush squirrel away from his furry sister but “accidentally” fumbles the toy.

Dog ‘accidentally’ lets little furry sister play with his toy, and it’s just sibling things

The video starts in the living room with Makai tightly clutching his favorite plushie. Little ten-week-old puppy Lumi spots it immediately. And she decides she absolutely needs it right now. She marches right up to grab the prize from his mouth. But Makai simply turns his head away, making her chomp empty air. Makai then struts right past his filming human while Lumi trails closely behind. Everything about his body language says he does not want to share.

So naturally, he decides he needs a better escape route. He leaps right onto the tall couch cushions, knowing fully well that his tiny sister is way too short to follow him up there. Lumi stands on the floor, looking completely defeated. But then the squirrel’s tail starts dangling over the edge. The little pup tries hopping up to reach it, and Makai actually lowers the item slightly just to tease her a bit more.

Lumi eventually assumes the game is over and starts walking away. But the Makai finally drops the toy, making it easy for his furry sister to grab it. Or was it an accident? Who knows, but she looks up in utter awe before launching herself against the couch frame to thank her big brother.

The sweet video quickly gathered over 1.2k likes from delighted viewers. Commenters love the massive size difference between the two white pups. One fan noted it was a total power move on Makai’s part to keep the baby entertained on the floor while he could nap peacefully. Sibling dynamics are always a chaotic mix of teasing and hidden affection. Makai might pretend he lost his prize by accident, but his happy face tells a completely different story.
