Waiting around in a sterile delivery room is easily one of the most nerve-wracking moments of a person’s life. But an expecting parent in Illinois just got the best surprise to help ease those pre-birth jitters. A hugely viral video (we’re talking millions of views) shared by the couple’s page @actionheightslifestyle shows a devoted-to-be grandpa bringing a dog to the hospital yard to cheer on an expecting mom before birth. And it is honestly the purest thing online right now.
Mom’s father-in-law brings dog to the hospital before her delivery
The clip begins with a view from a hospital room several floors above the ground. Down below, Rick’s father can be seen standing on a grassy area across the road. With him is the family’s Golden Retriever, happily waiting on a leash. The on-screen text explains what’s happening: “POV: Your father-in-law brings your dog to the hospital to cheer you on before you give birth.”
And that’s exactly what he does. Looking up toward the hospital window, the soon-to-be grandpa waves enthusiastically and pumps his fist in encouragement. Then the camera pans back inside the room, where Haley is sitting in her hospital bed, ready to welcome her baby. She spots the familiar furry face waiting outside and immediately lights up.
A moment later, the to-be mom glances back toward Rick with an emotional smile before the video returns to the dog below. His father points toward the window, seemingly trying to get the dog to look up too, making the whole thing even sweeter.
The video has racked up more than 5.8 million views and over 417,000 likes, and it’s easy to see why. Viewers couldn’t get enough of the gesture. “Top tier family support right here,” one person wrote. Another commented, “You married into the right family!!”Others noted that the couple’s “first baby” had shown up to support mom before meeting the new one.
The caption gave credit where it was due, reading, “And the best father-in-law award goes to…” Judging by the response online, plenty of people agree. And somewhere down below that hospital window, one very good dog was doing his part, too.
