The one thing Ace was most afraid of happened, and now this shelter dog is starting all over again. Over on @ahsnewark, an Instagram video shows the shelter dog back inside the kennel he thought he’d already left behind. After only a few months, Ace was returned because his adopters felt they weren’t able to manage his separation anxiety.

Ace struggled whenever his family left the house, and now he’s facing the very thing that frightened him most. What Ace seems to need most now is someone willing to give him time, routine, and a little extra patience.

The video opens with Ace slowly walking out from his sleeping nook to greet a visiting volunteer. He comes near the kennel bars, looking a bit confused but remarkably calm. Even after everything that’s happened, he still walks over, hoping for a little attention.

The scene then shifts to Ace enjoying a sunny outdoor walk. Outside, he looks like a completely different dog, happily exploring every smell while checking in with the person holding the leash.

The video’s narration explains that Ace was returned because of his separation anxiety. Husky and Shepherd mixes often enjoy staying active and close to their families, which makes routine and enrichment especially important. According to the shelter, Ace enjoys the company of other dogs and has been friendly with people. He’s back where he started, still waiting for the kind of home that can stick with him through the hard parts.

In just ten hours, the shelter dog’s video had already picked up more than 1,800 likes from people hoping Ace gets another chance. Many people couldn’t get over Ace’s sweet face, while others said they hoped the right family would find him soon. One commenter shared that adding a confident dog to the family made a huge difference for their own anxious pup.

Ace is currently waiting at the Associated Humane Societies facility on Evergreen Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. Anyone interested in meeting Ace can contact the shelter to learn more about giving him a fresh start.
