Not every cry for attention comes with barking. Sometimes it’s just the steady thump of a wagging tail against a metal kennel wall. That’s exactly what stopped a human during a visit to the dog shelter in the video shared by @paws_to_pray. Before Maggie had even made eye contact, she was already celebrating the chance that someone might finally stop for her. The sweet shelter dog had no way of knowing whether this would be her lucky day, but that didn’t stop her from greeting a stranger like an old friend.

The video starts with an unexpected sound echoing through the kennel area. Curious, the volunteer turns around and finds Maggie lying quietly inside her enclosure, her tail wagging so enthusiastically that it keeps thumping against the metal wall.
As soon as she realizes she has been noticed, Maggie sits up without missing a beat. Her tail keeps going, her bright eyes stay fixed on the volunteer, and for a few seconds it’s impossible not to smile back at her excitement. She just seems thrilled that she has managed to catch someone’s attention.
According to the caption, Maggie reacts this way to nearly everyone who walks by. The volunteer later saw her outside on a walk, and Maggie spent much of her time leaning against the person with her, making the most of all the love she could get. “She craves affection,” the volunteer wrote, adding that Maggie gives it back “10x.”
An adoption sign on her kennel identifies Maggie as a spayed black Labrador Retriever mix weighing 39 pounds and encourages visitors to meet, foster, or adopt her. Judging by her happy tail alone, she would probably be delighted with any chance to spend time with people.
The video has picked up hundreds of likes, with viewers saying they are stunned she is still waiting. Another volunteer described Maggie as incredibly gentle. Other viewers hoped someone would head to the shelter as soon as possible to adopt her.
