Hera had spent much of her life having puppies without ever getting to keep them. But after getting rescued, the change in her after meeting one tiny Dachshund is heartwarming to see. When her new human got her home, the mama rescue dog was still withdrawn, barely wagging her tail and whining as though she was searching for her babies. Then a little Dachshund came into her life, and something clicked. In the video shared by @justgunnerstunner, Hera slowly goes from looking unsure and unhappy to grooming, playing with, and seeking comfort from her new little companion.

Mama rescue dog, who never knew her babies, finally gets to be a mother and it changes her life

The video begins with Hera sitting on the floor, with text explaining that she had been rescued five months earlier after being sold online for £100. She had reportedly been bred eight times but never got to keep her puppies.

When Hera arrived at her new home, she was underweight, withdrawn, and miserable. Her teats were swollen, and she would whine as though she was still looking for the puppies she had lost. Playtime was not really happening, and even her tail rarely joined in.

But a small introduction changed it all. Hera met the family’s young Dachshund, and neither seemed quite sure what to make of the other at first. Little by little, though, Hera began treating the tiny dog differently. She started grooming her, playing with her gently and looking for her whenever she wanted some comfort.

The size difference makes some of their playtime especially sweet. This American Bully is much bigger than her little companion, yet Hera seems remarkably careful around her. Soon we see the two of them walking together, stretching out beside each other, and happily wrestling on the couch. The change is striking. The dog who once seemed too sad to play now looks eager to join in whatever her tiny friend, or rather, her “baby,” is doing.

The video passed 32,000 likes in less than 24 hours. She may never have gotten to raise her own babies, but this mama rescue dog finally found a little companion to care for, protect, and love.
