You can usually tell how much a dog likes a present by how quickly the wrapping disappears. Brooklyn wasted no time putting that theory to the test on his sixth birthday, enthusiastically ripping apart the gifts from his owner. The Golden Retriever’s excitement is hard to miss as he works his way toward two plushies. And while it looks like a simple birthday video, Brooklyn’s past makes this particular celebration worth pausing for.
Rescue dog excitedly opens birthday gifts while celebrating in his forever home
Brooklyn, a Golden Retriever, is celebrating his sixth birthday with plush toys and plenty of enthusiasm. A video shared by @pennyandthedogs shows Brooklyn eagerly tearing into his birthday presents as he celebrates another year in the home he now calls his own.
The video opens with text explaining Brooklyn’s background: “Our meat trade rescue dog opening his birthday gifts.” He is then seen enthusiastically working his way through the wrapping, pulling and ripping at the packages to find out what is inside. His owner has picked out plushies for him, and Brooklyn appears more than ready to get to them.
While the footage captures a happy birthday moment, Brooklyn’s past makes the celebration particularly significant. According to the post’s caption, he was rescued at just 6 months old from a meat truck in China by @slaughterhouse_survivors. After such a difficult start to life, he has since found a family where he can experience the simple joys of being a much-loved pet.
The caption also marked the occasion by looking ahead to more birthdays for Brooklyn. His owners wrote that it was “officially” his sixth birthday but only the third in his forever home, while wishing the furry baby many more years of celebrations.
At the same time, @pennyandthedogs encouraged followers to visit @shs_adoptables if they are in a position to adopt. The account noted that many of Brooklyn’s friends are still waiting for their forever homes and deserve the opportunity to experience the same kind of life.
The heartwarming video prompted plenty of birthday messages from viewers. One commenter said, “Happy birthday. So glad you got the best happy ending,” while another wrote, “Happy Huge 6th Birthday Brooklyn baby! Look at you go ripping into those pressies like a champ!”
