Nobody warned Dream that the hardest part of the internet’s “don’t eat the cheese” trend was not the waiting. It was trusting the sibling sitting next to him. The hilarious video from @hazel_and_dream has people completely invested after the two dog siblings took part in a cheese challenge that honestly looked pretty impressive… right up until a twist in the final few seconds.
Hazel, the German Shepherd Dog, and Dream, the Australian Shepherd, sat there being unbelievably patient while pieces of cheese rested directly in front of them on the kitchen island. And then something happens that nobody saw coming, especially poor Dream.
Dog siblings’ ‘cheese challenge’ has an unexpected twist at the end
The video starts with both dogs sitting neatly on stools beside the kitchen island while their mom holds two slices of cheese. Immediately, it is obvious this challenge is going to test everybody involved. The in-video text reads, “Don’t eat the cheese challenge. Waiting to see who breaks first,” and honestly, Dream almost folds before the game even properly begins. At one point, he sneaks in a tiny lick before the cheese is even placed down. Mom catches it instantly and tells him to wait.
After that, one piece of cheese sits in front of Dream and another in front of Hazel, and you can tell it’s a struggle for them both. Dream keeps glancing nervously at the cheese, then at his owner, then back at Hazel, like maybe she has a better understanding of the rules. Hazel, meanwhile, stays surprisingly calm. A minute passes. Then two. Then five.
At one point, a noise almost makes Hazel go for Dream’s cheese, but she catches herself just in time after Dream shoots her a look. Both dogs somehow keep behaving perfectly while the sped-up timer keeps moving forward.
Then their mom finally returns and gives them permission to eat. Hazel wastes absolutely no time inhaling her own cheese. Dream, however, politely leans in for a careful sniff first. Big mistake. Before he can even react, Hazel swoops over and steals his piece too. Dream immediately looks betrayed.
Viewers completely lost it over the ending. “That was cheating cheese tax payment,” one person joked, while another begged, “Please tell me you gave Dream a piece of cheese later.” Thankfully, the owner confirmed that everybody eventually got equal snacks in the house.
